4th Alpine Symposium on Craniomaxillofacial and Oral Surgery (4th ASCOS) 2013

Having a close look on Michael Rasse’s explanations on the preauricular approach.

Already for the 4th time, S.O.R.G. carried out a modular comprehensive approach on traumatology in conjunction with our cooperation partner Leopold-Franzens-Medical-University in Innsbruck under the direction of Michael Rasse and Wolfgang Puelacher.

Every second time the focus lies on mandibular trauma surgery while as in all the other years midfacial traumatology is the special point of interest. The course is carried out in Kuethai which is a pass between the Sellrain and the Ötz valley in Tyrol. This location is only 50 minutes away from the city of Innsbruck and therefore we could easily gain access to the important anatomical lab of the Leopold-Franzens-Medical-University in Innsbruck.

Perfect winter conditions in Kuehtai.

As in many S.O.R.G. courses, it was our ambition to combine excellent training conditions and an internationally recognized faculty with some nice and informal moments of social get-together.

38 participants coming from 15 different nations took the effort to travel to Kuehtai. Besides an interesting overview on nowadays imaging techniques, the different oral and extraoral approaches to mandibular trauma consumed the main space of this course. The theory of the lectures was demonstrated and practiced in the cadaver lab giving an optimal practical perspective into the subject .
