After last year’s interims stay at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, the S.O.R.G. TMJ course 2013 returns to the city of its origin, Vienna. Focusing on arthroscopic versus open temporomandibular joint surgery, this course has certainly seen the “who is who” in this specific medical discipline. And again, TMJ section Chairman and host Gerhard Undt managed to coordinate a high-caliber international faculty. Besides the TMJ section members Florencio Monje (Badajoz/Spain), Nadeem Saeed (Oxford/UK) and Andrew Sidebottom (Nottingham/UK) prominent guest speakers like Esben Aagard (Odense/Denmark), Rolf Ewers (Vienna/Austria), Alexander Gaggl (Salzburg/Austria), Rafael Martin Granizio (Madrid/Spain), Larry Moore (Chino Hills/USA) and Dorrit Nitzan (Jerusalem/Israel) contributed to the complete success of this course. A total of 78 participants coming from 28 different nations signed in for the course.
But Vienna would not be Vienna without the outstanding facilities at the local cadaver lab at the Anatomical Institute which could provide enough specimen to offer 1 joint per workshop participant. Besides KLS Martin leading endoscope companies Karl Storz, Olympus and Polydiagnost provided the necessary endoscope units so that there was enough visualization for most intense endoscope practice. It was not surprising though, that most participants did not want to finish their exercises and wished to keep on practicing forever.
