Preprosthetic Reconstructive Live Surgery Course

Istanbul, Turkey

Lecture room

Already for the second time, on April 17th and 18th, 2015 the S.O.R.G. preprosthetic section carried out a live surgery course in Istanbul. Thanks to the support of private hospital group ACIBADEM and local contact person S. Basa. The section found perfect circumstances for no less than 5 live surgery procedures being held on 2 densely packed days. The scope of surgery ranged from regional bone grafts, alveolar distraction osteogenesis and sinus lift procedure to bone grafting of the anterior or posterior iliac crest. One special patient showed already placed dental implants, however under esthetically unfavorable conditions. The faculty concluded to carry out a segmental osteotomy in order to bring the maxillary segment including all its dental implants downwards. A close cooperation with the dental technician led to a perfect dental splint and a good orientation in the surgery itself mainly focusing on the occlusion. All surgical procedures were first explained in theory before the live surgery offered practical detailed insights. More than 40 participants coming from 8 different countries were encouraged to raise questions on all cases directly to the operation room.

Live Surgery

Persons who are interested in more practical preprosthetic surgery should consider taking part in the Groningen Bone Graft Course which will be held from November 18th to 20th, 2015 in Groningen, NL. This course will be a hands-on cadaver dissection and all procedures are going to be practiced on fresh frozen human specimen. However the number of workshop places is limited and therefore early booking is recommended.
