4th Euregional Course on "Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Face"

For the fourth time already, the Euregional Course on "Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Face" took place from March 22nd - 23rd, 2013 in the beautiful city of Maastricht. Hometown of the University Medical Center (MUMC+), the cooperating clinical institution, the course was dedicated to surgical approaches to the face and the dissection of facial soft tissues.

Under the direction of Prof. P. Kessler and Prof. G. Swennen, both the S.O.R.G. orthognathic as well as the S.O.R.G. craniofacial section had their share in the setup of this course. An outstanding and distinguished guest faculty helped to present the course topic in detail, turning the participants' attention especially on forehead-, midface- and face-lift procedures, local skin reconstructive techniques as well as reconstruction of the lip and face.

The course was divided into a theroretical and a practial part including dissection on fresh frozen specimen allowing to apply all learned scientific content and transfer it into practice.

Coffee breaks
Cadaver workshop in the anatomy of the MUMC+

With 16 participants from 7 different countries, the course was fully booked. Especially because of the limited attendance and small group size, the course turned out to be very effective allowing the participants to benefit the most and giving them the possibility to personally interchange with the course faculty.

A long standing tradition of the Maastricht course is to organize a social event so that the participants and speakers get a chance to interact in an informal setting. Thus, following a day full of scientific talks and discussions, the first evening ended on a cozy note at the popular restaurant Thembí. Participants highly appreciated this opportunity to get to know the other course participants as well as the speakers, exchanging experience and establishing network contacts.
